Ricky Ponting resigns from Captaincy

The Australian team skipper, Ricky Ponting, resigned from Captaincy for Australia on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 but he would still play for the team. Ricky Ponting announced about his retirement at press conference n Sydney after coming back to Australia following his side's World Cup quarter-final defeat to co-hosts India. Ricky Ponting had been one of the greatest captain and key player for Australia. Now he has resigned from Captaincy. Ponting said:
"I have decided to stand down as captain of the Test and one-day teams as of now."
Micheal Clark who is Vice-Captain of Australian team at the moment is expected to be the next skipper for Australia. On this, Ponting said:
"Absolutely. I totally think that's the way it'll go. I totally would endorse Michael Clarke as captain. I've had no tap on the shoulder from anybody," he said. "This has been a decision made by me."
Ricky Ponting said it's the right to quit now after being  nine years as one-day captain and seven years as Test Captain..
